BAKE WITH FRUIT PUREE

BAKE WITH FRUIT PUREE

We can learn a lot from how we feed our babies. Once they graduate to solid food, we give them a steady diet of pureed fruits and vegetables, with very limited amounts of meat and oil.

While baby food on its own certainly isn’t appetizing to an adult, we can actually use things like mashed banana, pureed prunes, applesauce, and canned pumpkin in our own diet to increase our fiber intake, lower our total calories and lose weight.

Try substituting an equal amount of mashed or pureed apples or pears for cooking oil when you bake at home. You’ll reduce the amount of fat significantly – think 1,000 calories in a batch of brownies.

Keep in mind that food with less oil will cook more quickly, so check the oven at least five minutes before the end of the recommended cooking time to make sure you don’t overcook your food.
